MARRIAGE EQUALITY
On February 13, 2012, Washington governor Chris Gregoire signed into a law a bill that makes same-sex marriage legal in the state.
The law is scheduled to take effect June 7, but opponents have already mounted challenges on multiple fronts, including a drive to put the new law up to public vote via Referendum 74.
120,577 signatures must be gathered and filed by June 6 in order for R-74 to qualify for the November ballot. If a ballot measure is filed, the marriage equality law cannot come into effect until the public has voted. A constitutional amendment to outlaw marriage equality, Initiative 1192, has also been filed.

No matter what happens, our wedding will go on. Washington State already recognizes domestic partnerships.
